The concept of giving flowers to another as a heartfelt expression of emotion, has its origins in prehistoric tradition and continues throughout history to the present. This exhibition was conceived around this symbolic gesture; a compassionate gesture of caring for another human being and wishing them well. Whether it is the caring of an individual or a group of people in a sympathetic gesture, it says 'my feelings go out to you'. And what better way to communicate our emotions than to give these marvels of the plant world; these magical, living entities displaying unparalleled brilliant colours, intricate shapes and patterns and luscious textures enabling us to wordlessly convey some deeper part of ourselves. Although various meanings are attributed to specific flowers, the meanings seem somewhat arbitrary in comparison to the act itself. I feel that the act of sincere giving has an effect beyond its immediate circumstances and initiates a generous state of mind among those affected. My hope is that you experience the goodwill gesture inherent in the creation of these works.
